My Retro Gaming enthusism has been trumped! Enjoy a fellow collector’s review of Psycho Fox for the Sega Master System. Stopxwhispering has made a huge effort in playing, beating and recording her experience with Psycho Fox. This is a game I loved for the Master System and it’s one that I found difficult.
If you missed Psycho Fox on your Master System get ready to live the experience vicariously through stopxwhispering.

Psycho Fox for Sega Master System
Yesterday I played through Psycho Fox for Sega Master System.

I’ve visited this game many times, and I always really liked it. It is however pretty hard, the steering is stiff and it’s hard to maneuver the characters, which makes you inevitably fall into the arms of death. This has always led me to give up after a few stages, but not this time! (Thank heavens for unlimited continues!)

Psycho Fox is a side scrolling platformer, with good graphics for the 8-bit era and cute characters with some nice ability differences. You can eventually play as four different characters and change in stage whenever you have a ladder. You just have to press the PAUSE button which is on the Sega Master System located on the console and not the controller, just right next to the reset button.. so don’t be hasty!

I’m very sure this is a rare item and I’m happy that I still have it; even if it’s been made obsolete by emulators and flash carts. If it wasn’t for this disk drive I would have missed out on some very good games back in the day. When I bought this unit I got it with about 100 games on 3.25″ diskette. It’s really hard to remember but I think I paid about $100 for the Mega Disk with the 100 games. It was a very exciting day and it’s why I was able to discover games like Warsong, Lightening Force and Snow Bros. I tested it just today and it’s still working very well.
Mega Disk is an after market (and unlicensed) 3.25″ floppy drive that attaches to your Sega Genesis and will load ROMs from diskette to your Genesis. The load time is longer than a cartridge but once the game was loaded the gameplay was identical to authentic carts.

It’s not often that I find something out in the wild for the collection but every now and again it does happen. And when it does it’s usually a great deal. I picked up this boxed wireless joystick and receiver for $20. I was so pleased that I ran off without even inspecting it. When I got around to it I found that the two batteries in it had leaked and it was a real mess. I was concerned that it might not work anymore. Google instructed me to wipe it down with a water and vinegar solution. This really worked and it cleaned up very well. Both the receiver and joystick are like new and in perfect working condition. This was the second set I’ve picked up so I now have two wireless controller for my Genesis.
Received two new additions. Dino Land is in very good shape and it’s one that I use to have a long time ago but traded away. I don’t remember it being a pinball game. But it is and it’s pretty good. This is a fun game that needs no translation.
Puyo Puyo RPG Madoh Monogatari I is in Excellent condition and really does need translation! It’s looks like a full on RPG that I really wish I could play. I’m a big fan of Puyo Puyo. It was one of my favorite Mega Drive tittles back in the day and it’s still a great puzzle game. When I first discovered it the competitive nature of the game really set it apart from other puzzle games like Tetris and Columns. And the wacky characters were really so bizarre that I couldn’t help but laugh at their battle expressions 🙂
Madoh Monogatari I looks like it might be all dungeon crawl but I still wish I could really try it out. But I really like the case and artwork. Great for the collection!
Dino Land $8 and Madoh Monogatari I $24. All in $43 with shipping. When I buy a bunch of games at once I like it when the average price doesn’t exceed $20 (including shipping) per game. But at the same time I really like collecting these damn games… So clearly my philosophy on game prices is more of a guild line than hard and fast rule.
Each day I’m starting to feel less and less rare. Each day I’m becoming less of an oddity 🙂 I really am amazed at the love Sega and retro gaming are getting.
I found this homage to the Mega Drive/Genesis at sega-16.com and it really made my day. This song and video really rock. Part Retro Gaming, Part Scott Pilgrim and all awesome.
