New Additions

A few more addition to the collection have arrived from Japan:

$25 Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter: I enjoy collecting both the Genesis and Mega Drive versions of games. Even though the Genesis art work for this game is pretty good the Japanese version is, as usual, still better. It wasn’t until after I received my Japanese copy that I realized that the manual was actually from the Euro Mega Drive edition. Sucks, but at least it’s in good shape. And most importantly this game looks like a lot of fun. I usually think that of anything that reminds me of Golden Axe!
$25 Crying: Most side scrolling shooter are pretty fun and this one has a very unique cover.
$20 Chiki Chiki Boys: This is a game that I did not discover back in the day and it looks really good. Large characters like Alex Kidd and game play like Wonder Boy in Monster Land.

This lot cost $70 because the shipping cost was included in the prices above. Not including the Japanese Mazin. That came from another seller. I think it cost me $23 with shipping.

Two Dollar Joy Sticks

Posted by Sega Dude on August 13, 2011
Posted in: Hardware. Tagged: genesis, joystick, sega, Value Village, wireless. Leave a comment

I happened to be by a Value Village and found two Sega Genesis control pads for $2 each.
One is the licensed Sega wireless controller and it’s in excellent condition. I still have to find the IR receiver  before I’ll be able to use it.

New Additions

Some great new addition to the collection have arrived from Japan.

$18 Valis The Legend of the Fantasm Soldier:  Excellent platform game. Good graphics and story deeper than most action games.
$10 FZ Axis: Very cool top down Mech Robot shoot’em up.
$9 King of the Monsters: Rampage set in Golden Axe style game play.
$10 Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes: I don’t know… cool looking JRPG that I can’t play but still love having in the collection.
$8 Puyo Puyo 2: Probably my favorite puzzle game. This is actually a duplicate. I thought I was buying the Puyo Puyo RPG 😦
$12 Ys Wonders from Ys: I really liked Ys for the Sega Master System. It’s one of those games that can be easily over looked but it’s actual a good RPG. As for the Genesis Ys, I haven’t played it before but I’m looking forward to checking it out.
$10 Curse: There are tons of side scrolling shooters and Curse is one of them. It’s also one of those games with some great cover art for the collection.
$6 Blue Almanac: When I first discovered this game (recently) I wanted it because it was a SciFi RPG that I didn’t know of. And even more recently I wanted this because Super Fighter Team has translated this game into English and released it. My English copy has been shipped but has not yet arrived.
$34 Super Fantasy Zone: I really loved Fantasy Zone on the Sega Master System so I was willing to pay more for the Mega Drive remake. And I really love the mini cases the Sunsoft games come in.The grand total for this lot was $150 which includes $33 for shipping.

So here it is. This is how I upgrade the condition of a game. I buy a whole new one.
This one cost me $40 plus $9 shipping. $49 all in.

Complete Phantasy Star for the Sega Genesis

Not like new but in very good shape. I’m happy with this one. This chapter is closed.

Every Collection has its Gem.

Posted by Sega Dude on July 30, 2011

I use to think I had several really nice gems in my collection. Sure they are great but they’re all about to be dethroned.
And it’s not even by a new game to the library. It’s a poster. A custom poster created for me by a most excellent artist.

If you could think of one game to represent the age of the Sega Master System and the Genesis/Mega Drive. What game would that be?
Yeah, man. We all know it would be Phantasy Star!

Below is a rough sketch Kalman created to show me what he envisioned based off of what I was requesting.

Phantasy Star Poster Concept Art

By Kalman Andrasofsky

I remember how this idea formed in my head. A long while ago I saw a youtube video from a fellow collector and he had printed game covers for some of his favor Genesis games and hung them next to his collection. His collection was looking so good and polished that I wanted to amp up mine as well. I remember thinking how great it would be if I could print up a high resolution copy of the remake cover art for Phantasy Star Generation 1 for the PS2. Couldn’t do it. There was no source that I could find large enough to print at a meaningful size.

Enter Kalman. Not only is he a really awesome professional artist but he’s also a good friend. This combined with the buddy discount rate I was able to commission him for my own Phantasy Start Poster.
Of course you’ve guessed that I’m a big Phantasy Star fan but let me demonstrate  how perfectly aligned the planets and stars are for this project. Kalman is also a big fan. He didn’t need to say it but he’s told me himself this is one of his favorite games. Not only did we both play this game like it was our religion when we were kids but we also played it together back in the day.
There is going to be all sorts of skill and emotion poured into this poster. Right Kalman? Emotion! I want this poster to be your horcrux because a piece of you soul should be left behind 😛

Finally a reason for sega fans to visit my site! 🙂 This is one to keep an eye on.

Thank you Kalman!
