Enter: Ian Wilson

Some time ago Ian Wilson started a youtube channel called megadrive memories and it was his excitment for Mega Drive games that got me back into my collection. After watching many of his ‘game addition’ videos I dug into my closet and pulled out all of my Sega stuff. I think I had about 12 or so banker boxes full. I took inventory and then ran out to Ikea and bought myself a nice shelf. Six shelves was the biggest one they had and I took it.
Since then Ian has left megadrive memories behind in favor of something much more grand. With the help of two other partners Ian has created MegaDrive.me. His goal is to create an all encompassing hub of information for everything about the Japanese Sega Mega Drive.

Ian once had the goal of collecting every single Japanese Mega Drive game but I think he got tired of getting games that he just wouldn’t be able to play and he actual sold some of his collection and became more focused. It’s a shame because I was really rooting for him but I totally understand the decision. There are a lot of games that are not playable (unless you speak Japanese) or just not fun to play. Not to mention many games are very expensive and some crazy expensive. Personally I don’t mind buying games that I know I wont play. If they are cheap, complete and in great shape or are complete, in great shape and look awesome; I’m happy to add them to the collection. But it is discouraging know that there are many very cool titles that I’m just not willing to pay wild prices for and they will never end up in the collection.If you watch any of Ian’s youtube videos (and you should) you’ll notice he’s very particular about condition. In some of his videos he shows off his whole collection and I was always in awe because I knew each and every game on his self was in mint condition.
