Three Mega Drive Games – New Additions (Nadia…)

Posted by Sega Dude on November 30, 2012

I’ve wanted Nadia The Secret Of Blue Water for a while now. Can’t say why. It’s just a JRPG that I cannot play. The RPG was my favorite genre back in the day and I’m sure that has a lot to do with it. Not only does this title looks like it might be a good one it also has interesting artwork and it’s complete and in Excellent condition. I’m guessing it was a cartoon back in Japan.

Nadia The Secret Of Blue Water

I never knew of Dynamite Headdy back when it was new but since then I’ve often heard that it’s a very good platformer. I don’t particularly like the cover art. It’s a bit busy and plain at the same time. But the game itself does look like it could be good. The graphics are impressive for color, details and the amount of stuff these developers managed to get on the screen all at once. And I also like how the first level looks like a stage set. It seems to have a lot going for it including being complete and in Excellent condition.

Dynamite Headdy

Rolo To The Rescue is another decent looking platformer. But… I hate pink. Nothing against the color but on old games like this my first thought is that the game has suffered some sun fading. Pink stresses me out. But fortunately in this case the pink is actually pink. And even though this is an EA title with their yellow tab cart and a fat case it is complete and in Excellent condition. I say this even though there is a sticker on the outside of the case. I can’t read it but it does look like it might be an original retail label from when it was new. Not something from the store it was sold in but from EA. If that is the case I’m OK with the label being there. Can anyone read it for me? 🙂
So for better or for worse, chalk up another cute video game for the collection.

Rolo To The Rescue

Nadia The Secret Of Blue Water – $25
Dynamite Headdy- $24.00
Rolo To The Rescue- $23.00

Plus $22 for shipping for all three. Which is close to $31 per game. I don’t know what happened here… These games are not so exciting as to merit this price. For the life of me I can’t remember why I decided to go ahead with this. But what’s done is done.

And don’t forget the Pier Solar HD Kickstarter campaign is still running and it’s now fully funded! There is still time to get this excellent RPG 🙂

Oh Mummy Genesis

Oh Mummy Genesis Banner

This is almost becoming common… Oh Mummy Genesis is a newly released game for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. What great news! 🙂

It’s actually a remake of a very old computer game. And while it looks like it’s true to it’s original version it does look entirely remade. It’s a puzzle game with very nice graphics and a really excellent sound track.

Oh Mummy Genesis

Doesn’t that case look really nice? Don’t you just want it for your Retro Video Game Collection?
I know I really want it. Very much so.

Have a look. It really does look good. And it is in English despite the fact that it appears its creators first language is Spanish.

I’ve already ordered it! At least I think I did. http://www.1985alternativo.com is in Spanish and when I tried to translate the page it broke the sites ability to process an order. So I studied the English translation and then untranslated it and tried my best to create an account and purchase the game.

I spent €36.95 EUR ($48.46 CAD) for something from the PayPal user general@fasebonus.net. I really hope it’s Oh Mummy Genesis! 😛 If you’d like to try visit www.1985alternativo.com to order your copy.

And head over to Retro Collectfor a few more details about Oh Mummy Genesis.

The Pier Solar HD Kickstarter is still running strong with 12 days to go and it’s so very close now to being successful! Pier Solar is an excellent modern 16-bit RGP. Don’t miss out!

Three Mega Drive Games – New Additions (Art of Fighting…)

Posted by Sega Dude on November 16, 2012

Yes, very nice. All three of these new additions are complete and in Excellent condition.

First up is Art of Fighting. This is a very good fighting game. And even though the case cover is simple I think it looks gorgeous. Very polished, stylized and crisp. And did you notice? The cartridge label is sporting different artwork than the case. It’s such a small detail but I really love it. It feel like they put just a little bit more effort into the game when I see this.

Art of Fighting

I’ve heard good things Toe Jam & Earl but I still haven’t tried it out myself. As crazy as it sounds, sometimes knowing a game is good is enough for now. The queue of games to try is so long it’s really very hard to get to them all. At some point I would love to sit down with this game and see what it’s all about. However, from the video clip I am a bit skeptical.

Toe Jam & Earl

Look, I know. You don’t have to say it. In addition to awesome retro game I also buy garbage games too. Chibi Maruko Chan is in great shape, complete and in Excellent condition… and no one will ever see it tucked away somewhere in the back row of my shelf. The video below doesn’t even really show off the game. It’s just the intro. Don’t click play. *You’ve been warned.

Chibi Maruko Chan

Art of Fighting – $18.00
Toe Jam & Earl- $10.00
Chibi Maruko Chan – $5.00

Plus $12.00 shipping for all four puts me at $15.00 per game. Which is pretty good… even if one is all shame.

And don’t forget the Pier Solar HD Kickstarter campaign is still running. There is still time to get this excellent RPG 🙂

Pier Solar HD Kickstarter

Posted by Sega Dude on November 7, 2012
Posted in: Community, Games. Tagged: dreamcast, kickstarter, linux, mac, pc, pier solar hd, sega, watermelon team, xbox360. 7 Comments

These are good times we live in! On November 5, 2012 Watermelon Team launched their Kickstarter campaign for Pier Solar HD. What’s happening is Watermelon Team is taking their amazing 16-bit RPG video game Pier Solar and the Great Architects originally made for the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Genesis in 2010 and enhancing the graphics and making the game available for Xbox360, PC, Mac, Lunix and the Sega Dreamcast.
There is still time to browse your way over to the Pier Solar HD Kickstarter and pledge for a reward of your choice before December 5, 2012.

“Pier Solar is the biggest 16-bit RPG ever and it’s coming to you in high definition for Xbox 360, PC, Mac, Linux & Sega Dreamcast!”

As soon as I discovered this I immediately pledged $185.00 for the Pier Solar Japanese Collectors Edition for the Sega Dreamcast (which includes the Pier Solar Guide book among other cool things) and for the Pier Solar North American Regular Edition for the Sega Dreamcast. I may end up with the Regular edition for PC as well but we’ll see.

Although you should 😛 You don’t have to go wild like I have. You can get your copy of Pier Solar and the Great Architects for as little as $15 for a digital download for Xbox360, PC, Mac or Linux. This is an amazing deal for an outstanding HD classically styled RPG video game.

Below is a before and after comparison of the 16-bit version next to the HD remastered release. Click on the image for the full HD screen shot. Looks brilliant! Check out the Pier Solar HD Kickstarter for many more images.

If you’re still not sure what Pier Solar is all about head over to Sega-16.com for an excellent review that I thoroughly agree with. This is a wonderful game and not something to be missed by any gamer.

And of course be sure to check out the many details about Pier Solar and the Great Architects at Watermelon Team’s Kickstarter.

Three Mega Drive Games – New Additions (Fatal Fury 2…)

Posted by Sega Dude on November 2, 2012
Posted in: Collection New Additions, Games, Mega Drive (Japanese). Tagged: collection, fatal fury 2, Gambler Jiko, mega drive, picture, quack shot, sega, video game. 2 Comments

Here’s the good news. All three new additions are complete and in Excellent condition. Love it 🙂

Fatal Fury 2 is a good solid fighting game. The graphics are very nice even when compared to the arcade version. Street Fighter II was the only fighting game that held my attention back in the day but I’m still really pleased to score Fatal Fury 2 for the collection. It’s a quality game and it has some really excellent cover art work.

Fatal Fury 2

Quack Shot is also a very good game. Although still unique on it’s own it does remind me of Mickey Mouse’s World of Illusion. I do like World of Illusion better but Quack Shot is still well done. The art work is also good even though it is a bit too cute for my liking. I’d prefer it if everyone thought of the Sega Dude’s collection as bad-ass! OK?

Quack Shot

Gambler Jiko Chushinha Katayama Masayuki Mahjong Dojo. I don’t have much to say about this one except it must have the longest title of any Mega Drive game ever. Maybe of any video game ever? And as a non Japanese speaking person I can also say it really sucks. Maybe it’s good if you know the language, but I don’t think so. It seems to be almost all text. Maybe it’s about gambling at mahjong?
OK, there one thing it has going for it. I’ve always liked it when a game uses different art on the cartridge compared to what it uses for the cover. Too bad the art isn’t very interesting.
This game is here to do its part and fill the back rows of my collection. It might never be seen again.

I’ve just noticed that not having much to say about a game is a lot more than what I have to say about the games I do like…

Gambler Jiko Chushinha Katayama Masayuki Mahjong Dojo

Fatal Fury 2 – $17.00
Quack Shot- $12.00
Gambler Jiko Chushinha Katayama masayuki Mahjong Dojo – $3.00

Plus $10.80 for shipping for all three. Which is close to $14 per game… and only one of them is rubbish.

Three Mega Drive Games – New Additions (Magical Taruruto Kun…)

Posted by Sega Dude on October 26, 2012
Posted in: Collection New Additions, Games, Mega Drive (Japanese). Tagged: aladdin, collection, Magical Taruruuto Kun, mega drive, mega panel, picture, sega, video game. 10 Comments

Today I have some nice additions to the collection. All three are complete and in excellent condition.

The first is Magical Taruruuto Kun. It’s a cute game and despite not taking itself very seriously it is really well crafted. Nice large sprites, excellent graphics, a fun platformer and it’s not expensive.

Aladdin is also a good platformer. I often worry about franchise games being rushed and developers hoping for sales based on the strength of the name alone. But Aladdin for the Genesis is a good game.

Mega Panel isn’t the most amazing puzzle game and even with it’s very simple game mechanics it still fun and worth the price.

Magical Taruruuto Kun

Aladdin

Mega Panel

Magical Taruruuto Kun – $10.00
Aladdin – $8.00
Mega Panel – $8.00

Plus $10.80 for shipping for all three. Which is just over $12 per game all in.
